First Peoples Group is honoured to be working with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to enhance Indigenous cultural safety and to develop ways to respectfully screen sacred and ceremonial items.
In early 2022 we began providing customized training for CATSA employees and all airport screening staff across Canada on Indigenous peoples in Canada to better serve Indigenous travellers, particularly those who travel with sacred and ceremonial items.
We will also provide training around the protocols that honour the sacred and ceremonial items many First Nations, Métis and Inuit Knowledge Keepers, Ceremonial Leaders, Ceremonial Helpers, Elders, Traditional Healers, Drummers, and Oral Historians carry on their travels across the world.
CATSA’s commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous people is an excellent manifestation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action.
